From Intern to Volunteer; Inspiration from a 14-year old Boy

I am currently a senior at Eastern Michigan University majoring in Film. As a requirement for my program, I ventured out to find an internship for the summer. I looked high and low for anything that would fill this requirement and when I was at the end of my rope, Community Television Network came to my rescue. CTN offered me a summer internship working hands on with production equipment and the opportunity to create, produce and direct our very own show!

Touring Tree Town is the creation of CTN’s 2013 summer interns with four segments highlighting areas around Ann Arbor. I was given the local non-profits segment to focus on and my first organization to spotlight was Home Front Hugs. An organization based on helping our heroes both stateside and overseas. What drew me to this organization was the fact that it is ran mostly by a 14-year old boy named Ed. He is so young and yet so passionate about this cause that he devotes most of his free time to volunteering. After shooting this segment, it inspired me to reach out and I began volunteering at my local veteran’s society.

I have to say this was a great first segment and hope the rest run just as smooth. Tune in to Touring Tree Town on June 14th to see what local organizations you can get involved in around town.
