May at CTN 2011

Hello, and welcome to CTN’s a2ikog podcast,
Keeping Ann Arbor in the Know on the Go,
Thank you so much for joining us!
I’m your host, Rebecca Rhodes.
April showers bring May flowers! At least that’s my mantra for getting through all of this rain…
I know you’re hanging tough with our exciting Michigan weather—but take heart! It won’t be long Ann Arbor! Next time you have to *sigh* once again wield that umbrella; just envision the beautiful botanical bliss that awaits us on the other side of these dark and stormy days. Hey, and at least it’s not more….no, I dare not even speak the name of that wintry precipitation, of which we’ve finally seen the last!
No, let’s move on and see what CTN is airing to keep the cabin fever at bay this May as we brace for lighter, brighter days!

Attention Ann Arborites! Synchronize your watches for Operation M.O.M.!
Just in time for Mother's Day, CTN is telecasting “Memories of Mom,” a special program on which local residents commemorate and celebrate those maternal marvels who gave us life and lifetimes of love.  Get together with your mom and watch the premiere on Friday, May 6 at 6 PM on CTN's Public Channel 17.  Additional replays are scheduled throughout the month of May.  Visit a2gov.org/ctn for the complete schedule.

CTN’s Education Station presents a “Legislative Roundtable with the Ann Arbor Board of Education and Community:  State Funding Issues Affecting Ann Arbor Public Schools.”
Ann Arbor Board of Education trustees and Ann Arbor state legislators will meet Friday, May 6th from 5:30 PM-7:00 PM to discuss the school budget, state funding issues, and ideas to reform funding of preK-12 public education.  CTN will cover the event for later telecast.  Watch the premiere on CTN's Education Channel 18 on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 PM.  For additional replays, visit our website at www.a2gov.org/ctn.

CitiTV 19’s "Sunday Game of the Week" never fails to deliver great match-ups in local sports and May is no exception.
This month will feature:
Parks & Rec Adult Hockey C & D League Championships
Pioneer @ Skyline, Girls Soccer
Huron @ Pioneer, Girls Soccer
Skyline @ Pioneer, Girls Lacrosse
Huron @ Pioneer, Boys Lacrosse
Skyline @ Huron, Boys Baseball
And Pioneer @ Saline, Girls Soccer.

Tune in to CitiTV 19 on Friday, May 20th for the Ann Arbor Police/Citizen Awards. This annual awards ceremony recognizes the best policing efforts made by Ann Arbor’s finest throughout the previous year, as well as significant contributions made by citizens who have helped solve crimes, save lives, and assist the police in their efforts to serve the City of Ann Arbor. This year's keynote speaker is retired U of M football coach and legend, Lloyd Carr.
Don’t miss this chance to recognize and applaud the many ways in which our local heroes go above and beyond the line of duty! Check out the website for more details.

On Wednesday, May 18th, at 7:00 PM, on CitiTV 19, Ward Talk LIVE will feature 1st Ward Council member Sandi Smith.  Please phone in or write to have your questions addressed on the air. Call the studio line at 734.794.6155 or email us at ctn@a2gov.org.

Interested in producing your own TV show? How about learning how to work the equipment in a TV studio and work behind the scenes to help other people get their shows on the air?
You may expect to pay a great deal of money to gain such technical skill via hands-on experience, but that’s not the case at CTN! No sir!
CTN offers free—that’s right, free television production classes for Ann Arbor residents and representatives of Ann Arbor non-profit organizations!  Your opportunity to dive in and get your feet wet is coming up with our Preview Session on Monday, May 9 from 6-7 PM
This Preview, which includes a tour of our studios, will give you a feel for the inner-workings of CTN and help put you on the road to getting your work on the air.  Call 734.794.6150, ext. 0 to sign-up, or email us at ctn@a2gov.org.

CTN Offices will be closed on Monday, May 30th for the Memorial Day Holiday, so use that time you would have spent in studio honoring the memories of those who have given their lives in service to our country, preserving our freedoms—including the freedom of speech we exercise in our lives and on the air every day!

Oh, and Mother’s Day is right around the corner on May 8th, so don’t forget to find your own special way to let mom know how much she means to you! Make Mom a homemade card! Call! Visit! Skype! However you do it, make it happen, for all the ways she’s made it happen for you over the years!

Well, that wraps the ribbon ‘round this Maypole!
